Hannah Childs Schlabig has been an avid musician all her life. Throughout her time at Grandview Heights schools, she played woodwinds, piano and brass instruments. By the age of 12, she knew that she wanted to teach private music lessons as a career. By the age of 17, she had already started her teaching studio in her parents' home in her spare time on Sunday afternoons. She continued her music studies into college, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from Capital University. After graduating in 2012, she hit the ground running building her local in home lesson teaching studio back in Grandview. She has since expanded her service area to Upper Arlington, and teaches on average 160 lessons per month.
Hannah believes that every lesson should be for the student and about the student. No two students are the same, and we all deserve a unique approach to learning. When laying the foundation for lessons, she utilizes curriculum that prepares students for learning with the basic foundation of reading music and musicianship. Once these basic principals are mastered, she encourages student led learning. This allows the student to pursue musical genres that speak to them, thus encouraging more practice and mastery of their instrument.
At this time, Hannah is only accepting students ages 4-18. Hannah has a natural ability to connect with young learners, and is grateful for the privilege to watch her students grow up to become wonderful musicians and well rounded humans.
